Point-of-Sale & retail management system
Proposed name
Amiga Business Partner
Full description
We desperately need a GOOD, SIMPLE, and ACCURATE set of integrated business tools, for use within the retail sector. Personally, I'm tired of seeing Amiga stores with clones for all of their business software. What I propose is a multi-module system which includes: Accounting (General business), Inventory Management & tracking, Point-of-Sale functions with "cash drawer" support, AUTOMATIC adjustment of inventory database, network support (for "multi-miga" office communication), ARexx programmability for ALL modules (big surprise, eh?)...just to name a few MAJOR features required. "Minor features" should include multiple-tax tracking, cheque printing, account balancing, automatic order generation for low-stock items BEFORE you run out, "popularity tracking" to ensure those items which selll best are kept in stock at all times, distributor database format to allow best-price checking between distributors (distributors would have to supply databases & updates in a common file format)...just a few ideas for a BASIC business package that we've gone without for far too long now. Oxxi, Inc. has a package called "Best Business Management" which, while functional, appears as though it hasn't been updated since the last 1.2 ROM was produced, and is incredibly unwieldy to use. If someone would purchase this source as a base, this would shave at least a year from total development time...although Oxxi says that this source IS available, a serious developer MUST be willing to continue it's development. Note: Even with ALL the features above, a base 1200 should be more than adequate to run this type of software...

Also, a piece of software called Business Master was advertised in either the October or September 1997 issue of Amiga. It was supposed to handle G/L, A/R, A/P, Invoicing, Inventory, and a few other things. Has anyone actually used this program? We in the Amiga community need an affordable integrated POS software package. The only thing I've seen is Retail Escort, but the $500.00 US price tag is a bit too high for most businesses to justify spending. Invoice It was simple program that just handled invoices. I've been in contact with its author, Syd Bolton, as of late. He has no plans to update it, but has asked me to compile a wish list for him if he does change his mind. Are there any programmers who would be willing to take over the project and update it? Maybe a software developer could convice Mr. Bolton to sell the rights to the program.

There is already a system that is very close to these specifications. It's called Poswiz. Runs on a stock A1200, does stock control, ordering, cash register, invoicing, laybys, sales clerks, departments, product ranges and much more. Version 1 was released several years ago, with a demo on Aminet. Version 2 has been on hold for ages due to "lack of demand" but is over 95% complet. Could be completed within a relatively short time, with additional features if required, if a reasonable number of beta testers could be located.
