StatusFree for development.

Short description
GUI for SpheReal
Proposed name
AmiSphere ?
Full description
Ifyou have never heard about SpheReal it is because it is an MPOG (Multi Player Online Game) currently in early development (idea phase mostly). The chief developer wants to make it "very very multi-platform", but I'm having a bit of trouble convincing him that "very multi" should include the Amiga. Getting an Amiga programmer or two involved in the project would of course make things much easier. The early ideas were for a web interface but this appears to have been abandoned for the idea of a telnet based GUI. Have a look at www.natcow.com and see what you think. Even if you can't program, register anyway and make your voice heard! (You may have some trouble finding a browser that will work with the site; I found that AWeb lets me both register and post, but be careful with the buttons on the posting page...)

Little update on the URLs: natcow.com now seems to belong to someone else, sphereal.com still works but there is VERY little activity there... (Very little activity here too BTW. Is anyone updating this any more?)

A little update: Plans keep changing and it now looks like they are heading for a web interface with compatibility-limiting whistles and bells again. Oh well. And even though the old URL still works (now and then) the project can also be reached on www.sphereal.com (now and then - the project leader runs the site on a portable...)

All good things come to an end, some of them prematurely. The natcow site has been reset a couple of times (and the last time it stopped responding to the www prefix, so it's just plain natcow.com now). The resets of course also wiped out everything that's gone before, and the game project has been put on ice, so now it's basically a site about nothing. :p

A little update on the project. There's been a bit of talk about creating a game protocol and making it public. The following is quoted from a new page on the site: --------------------- The Sphereal Game Protocol(SGP) will be served by the Sphereal Daemon(SD). The SD is being written in Tcl. It sits on a Tcp port, and accepts connections. The protocol, and how to use it, will be made available to the public (not source code) so that everyone who wants to can write a client to play the game from. Most likely, we'll provide a very generic client with just enough features to play the game. We will release the source to that.
