Short description
A Powerpc version of Amos
Proposed name
PowerAmos
Full description
Languages like Amos and Blitz Basic should be ported to the Powerup cards from Phase5.Even beginners should be able to develop for the PPC Amiga.

Comments
The port of an "AMOS-like" language to C has begun. The project is called Mattathias and its goal is to take the language specification of the AMOS languages and make them portable to other operating systems and processors including the PowerPC. If you want more information you can visit the AMOS Factory at http://www.liquido2.com or the project Mattathias home page at http://sourceforge.net/projects/mattathias

AMOS was a mistake from the beginning. The AMOS concept of "developing" software for the Amiga is responsible for the overall low quality of AmigaOS software since it in few ways is AmigaOS compliant. Believe me, we don't want any crap like this for future generations of Amiga compatibles - C and C++ are the only way to go.

Agreed that Amos itself would be very difficult to port, but why would you port the actual code? You've got the language defined, but the program itself is quite a hack, so it would probably be better to start over with the actual program when writing for PPC - Just use the existing language that's already defined as a starting point. That way, you could at last have a system-friendly version of Amos, and with luck, all that old code would still be compatible.

I think a PowerPC Basic similar to AMOS or Blitz Basic is a great idea. It will give even beginners a chance to develop software that takes advantage of the PPC CPU. Basic is easy enough for any fool, and when supercharged by the PPC, programmes would be quite zippy I'm sure. Not everyone wants to tackle Assembly or C.

You must mean Visual Basic. Klik (sic!) and Play isn't a programming language, it's a puzzle game - if you find the right pieces and put them back together you get to play a game that was designed and cut to pieces by the programmer. [Note to proofreader: The first word in the name of the program under discussion really is "Klik"!]

Amos is (almost) impossible to port because it is badly written completely in ASM ! Blitz should be more simple to port. Nevertheless, PowerPC will probably offer enough power for new simple languages. (graphical assisted languages like click-and-play on PC)
